About Matheran Hill Station Tour
Welcome to the Matheran Hill Station, a beautiful and natural retreat in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Matheran was first founded by Shri Malet in May 1850 and thereafter Bombay's governor of that time, Shri Elphinston, took the lead and started developing the infrastructure of Matheran. The British government took the initiative to develop the Matheran to beat the heat in the surrounding region.
Matheran Hill Station is the closest hill station to Mumbai located at an altitude of 800 meters. Surrounded by lush green forests and picturesque landscapes, the hill station is an ideal holiday destination for those looking for peace and tranquility.
Since Matheran is declared as an Ecosensitive zone, vehicles are not allowed beyond Dasturi Naka and from there nearly 1.5 km tourists are required to walk to reach Matheran or use a porter, hand cart, or horse to reach Matheran.
Apart from its numerous tourist attractions, Matheran is also home to a variety of flora and fauna species. So come and explore this breathtaking hill station and experience its beauty and tranquility. Matheran provides all budget accommodation options but please remember hotel rates changes from season to season, Rates for Saturday and Sunday are different from regular working days, Budget Hotels per Night rates are -1500-2500 while standard hotel rates are from 2500-3500 depending on the location of hotel. Hotels near Railway station and Main Market are costlier by 20 %. Matheran also has higher range hotels whose tariff is in the range of 4000-6000 per night. Always it is better to have advance booking of Hotel or Tour package to avoid disappointment.

Day 01: Matheran
Arrival at Dasturi Naka Entry point of Matheran Hill Station by road from Mumbai-Pune.Mumbai to Matheran
road distance is 80km and Pune to Matheran is 120km. Please Note- Matheran is declared as an Eco-sensitive zone vehicles are not allowed beyond Dasturi Naka, hence park the vehicle here and trekking1.5 km to reach Matheran on arrival check into the hotel. The evening is free to explore the town and enjoy the cool climate of the hill station o/n halt.
Day 02: Matheran
After Bf proceed to Matheran sightseeing by trekking or you can hire a horse Important points are:
Echo Point
This is a crucial point that offers a panoramic view of the whole place. As the name suggests, the Echo point is well-known for allowing you to enjoy your echoes. This has made the place very popular amongst locals as well as tourists.
Charlotte Lake
This lake is the main source of water supply in Matheran and a major point of the place. It is located at a distance of 1 km from the main market and looks idyllic during the monsoons, but dries up during the summers.
Louisa Point
Located on a plateau, this famous lookout point offers a spectacular view of the ruined forts of Prabal and Vishalgarh. The famous "Lion's Head" (a rock resembling a lion's head) is located close to it.
Alexander Point
It is a famous point located 1 km towards the north of the place. This point provides splendid views of the Garbutt Point,the Chowk valley, and the Ulhas River, and is a favorite among the sightseers.
King George Point
During the monsoons, water from the nearby Charlotte Lake overflows and forms various waterfalls around the place. This is the point that beautifully captures these waterfalls and hence is a popular point during the season of showers.
Sunset/Porcupine Point
Located at a distance of 4 km from the main market, this point is famous for its views of the setting sun. This point offers views of a dark forest below. Prabalgad can also be seen from this point.
Monkey Point
It is a well-known point, famous for the large number of mischievous monkeys that throng the place. The point also offers a mesmerizing view of the verdant plains below. After sightseeing return back to the hotel for lunch evening free for shopping and personal activities o/n halt
Day 03: Matheran-Mumbai/Pune
After Bf check out from the Hotel and reach Dasturi Naka by Trekking in the forest of Matheran Hills from there take your vehicle and return back to Mumbai/Pune on arrival drop at Residence Railway station or Airport with a sweet memory of Gagangiri Tours and Travels

Matheran is a small hill station on the Central Line of the Mumbai suburban train. It can be reached either by local Train up to Neral Station and from there toy train or Share taxis are available to Dasturi Naka. From Dasturi Naka you have to walk around 1.5 km to reach Matheran. Matheran is an Eco-sensitive hill station hence Vehicles are strictly banned beyond Dasturinaka. You have to explore the hill station either by Horses available there or by trekking.
